Permanent full-time role

About the Role

This is your chance to join a fast-track insurtech venture on a mission to take the commercial (re)insurance placement workflow into the 21st century and beyond.

Working as part of Relay’s Product & Engineering team you will work closely with Relay’s Design team to help ensure we maintain a high level of quality and polish in the features we deliver to end users through feature acceptance testing and sprint-to-sprint regression testing.

Our teams have a high degree of autonomy and ownership and we are looking for candidates who can work with minimal supervision.

About Relay Platform (“Relay”)

Building the next generation of technology for the Commercial Lines insurance and reinsurance markets, Relay works with forward-looking brokerages to deliver increased volumes, higher commissions and maximal efficiency.

Relay is headquartered in Toronto, Canada, with team members and operations in the US, as well as an expanding activity internationally.

Relay is backed by top tier venture investors, including Drive Capital, New Ventures, NFP Ventures, Highline Beta, and Plug and Play Ventures. Relay joined the reputed Insurtech100 list, was listed as top 10 Insurtech by Plug and Play, and won Reaction’s Innovator of the Year and Insurtech North 2021 award.

Our Company Culture

We promote a highly progressive environment to allow our teammates to reach their full potential. Our innovative culture is anchored in four pillars: inclusion, empathy, customer excellence, and agility.

We offer a “work from anywhere, anytime you prefer” policy, along with competitive compensation packages including benefits and stock options.

Additionally, we offer digital team-building events, on-demand remote-work locations, team gatherings in attractive locations (post-covid), and we support our team’s aspirations, regardless of whether they overlap with our commercial objectives or not.

What You’ll Do

We are looking for a Software Developer In Test with a passion and entrepreneurial spirit for contributing to a solution that will revolutionize the way things are done in a huge, established market.

Your core responsibilities will be to:

  • Ensure we deliver a high-quality product through feature acceptance testing
  • Build out our automated end-to-end test suite to increase application coverage as the product develops
  • Run and maintain our pre-release regression test suite to prevent new development from breaking existing features
  • Work closely with the rest of the Product & Engineering team as new features are developed to build out test plans and testing strategies
  • Work directly with the QA and engineering teams to continue to develop our QA process

What we look for

You're perfect for this role if you:

  • Enjoy picking things apart and digging in to find the edge-cases that haven’t been thought of
  • Have strong communication skills to feed back accurate bug reports to the rest of the Product & Engineering team
  • Have a strong interest in leveraging the latest tech and frameworks, and generally turning innovation into real-world products
  • Are results-driven with a strong ownership mentality and drive to deliver on schedule and problem-solve independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Are a team player who openly shares information, helps others, and is open to new ideas

Your track record should include:

  • Experience working as part of a development team to test web based applications
  • Any development experience with end-to-end testing libraries, particularly TestCafe, is a plus
  • Knowledge of web technologies and the differences between various browser and OS environments and how that can impact web software
  • A drive to get better every day, demonstrated by evident career progression and explorations;
  • Experience working with a small team towards aggressive product development milestones, with a strong appreciation of business needs

What We’ll Provide

  • Health and Dental Benefits - We care about our team and put their health first. We offer inclusive health and dental coverage with customizable plans and access to on-demand virtual healthcare.
  • Unlimited Vacations & Flexible Hours- People work best when they’re rested; take time off to recharge and make sure you’re working sustainably. We also offer flexible hours so you don’t need to worry if you need to finish early or just start and work later than most others. We celebrate achievements, not hours worked.
  • Fully Supported Remote Working - We’re a fully remote team with employees across Canada and the US and make sure employees are supported with a work from home allowance, access to co-working spaces, and team meetups where we get everyone together to share quality in-person time together.
  • Personal Development - We want everyone at Relay to meet their goals, both personal and professional. As well as regular one-on-ones with your manager to help you meet professional goals we also have a Personal Development Program with $500 available to cover courses in anything you might be interested in learning.
  • Opportunity and Adventure - We’re a fast-growing startup and there are a lot of opportunities for you to get involved in more than just what is covered in this job description. We hope you’re up for an adventure.

Interview Process

We have a simple and transparent three stage recruitment process - we move quickly and want to respect your time.

Step 1: Video call with one of our great Developers in Test (30 minutes)

Step 2: Complete a short take-home exercise involving a simulated QA plan.

Step 3: A technical interview via video call with two members of our engineering team to go over the take-home exercise and discuss your approach to testing (1 hour)

Step 4: Video call with the Engineering Manager for the team you’ll be working with most (30 minutes)

If all goes well we’ll make an offer!

We value diversity

We believe that diverse teams build better companies and better products. We encourage applications from qualified candidates from all backgrounds, including candidates of colour, women, queer candidates, candidates with family caregiving responsibilities, immigrant candidates, transgender candidates, and candidates with disabilities and candidates with time spent unemployed.
